PROSSER, Wash. - The Zirkle Fruit Company got a rebate check for 880,000 from Benton PUD on Wednesday.
The check is for the energy their Prosser facility is saving each year. Benton PUD said with new energy efficient upgrades in place, Zirkle Fruit is reducing thier energy use by 35% a year. This means they are saving enough energy to provide electricity for about 250 homes a year.
"The different types of applications that they installed were, lighting retro-fits, more energy efficient lighting, and they had fast acting doors which are more efficient, refrigeration upgrades, air compressor upgrades and just a variety of conservation measures that were installed at this facility," said Chris John, Manager of Power Resources Benton PUD.
