KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Port of Kennewick is working on redevelopment plans for a swath of riverfront property near Clover Island.
The land used to be home to the Willows trailer park. But all the trailers are gone now, and some big changes are on the way.
According to port officials the plan is to avoid building something that is centered around one thing. Instead they want a multi use environment.
"Wine, food restaurants, but not exclusive, residential could also be a component of this, along with some retail components, possibly even the industrial and warehousing side of the wine industry. A working waterfront if you will," explains Larry Peterson, Port of Kennewick Director of Planning and Development.
So far the port has invested $5 millions dollars into the project. They plan to prepare the Chieftain apartment for redevelopment. The project is expected to be completed in 15 years.
