FINLEY, Wash. - Two men say they are lucky to be alive after almost drowning in the Columbia River over the weekend.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office says a 75-year-old man, his son, and their dog left the Finley area Sunday in their canoe to cross the Columbia River to Sacajawea Park. Shortly after the water became rough and capsized their canoe.
Two nearby Walla Walla County deputies were on marine patrol in the area when they saw the son struggling to keep his father and dog above water. The deputies quickly boated over and pulled the two men and dog on board.
The deputies say they took all three to the shore unharmed.
