Kennewick, Wash. - Veterans from around the area took part in a benefit fair and stand down today. The event, sponsored by Worksource Columbia Basin, provided a variety of services.
Organizer Ryan Washburn called it a success and says they were able to meet the needs of over 600 area veterans. Over 100 volunteer made the event possible, and many said it was the least they could do.
"And really saw there was a big dental need. I think these people have given a lot to our country and the least they deserve is for us to be here for them, in any small way that we can," said Lynn Stedman, Columbia Basin College Dental Hygiene Director.
"there's a lot of guys and gals around that aren't able to and so services are here and they're able to find out who and what's available," said James Weztel, a retired veteran.
Washburn says the grassroots stand downs are a community-based way to help the nation's struggling vets.
