BENTON CITY, Wash.- The wineries on Red Mountain are expanding. With tourists populating the area it opens up room for other scenic businesses to pop up as well.
Teresa Owen is a horse rider. She's been trailing her way around Red Mountain for decades. Now that the wineries are drawing in tourists she has a chance to make her hobby a business.
"With the vineyards out here, a lot of people and friends started calling me and saying 'hey we wanna go riding through the vineyards out there,'" she explained.
That's when her and her husband Jeff got the idea for Red Mountain Trails, a new company that takes visitors for trots around the beautiful vineyard landscapes.
"Just the serenity of the area is really nice," said Jeff Owen. "It's very peaceful and it's a good time for us to spend together."
The routes that the Owens have mapped out take riders along the river giving them views that they couldn't see from back at the tasting room.
"I've ridden in Wyoming doing trail rides there and hunting in New Zealand way out in the bush and they're wonderful, but we sure are lucky here," said Teresa.
Red Mountain Trails has only been operating since May, but the guides are experts on riding in the area.
