RICHLAND, Washington. - Third graders from Richland's Lewis and Clark Elementary School got to go on a field trip to city hall today.
They got a lesson about how their city government works.
Part of the kids' junior achievement sessions is to learn about city planning, zoning, and the people who work on those issues.
"The ability for them to kind of understand what happens locally in relationship to, even on the state or even on the national level, it's all different levels of government that have different responsibilities for different areas and different people," said Thomas Yamamoto, a parent of one of the students.
Other lessons the kids are learning include the types of businesses found in a city, workers those businesses need, and the skills the workers are required to have.
