PASCO, Wash. - The 19th annual S.H.A.K.E. (Seniors Helping All Kid's Education) School Supply Drive is underway in both Benton and Franklin counties.
Volunteers with Catholic Family & Child Services are collecting supplies now through August 14th.
Organizers say donations will be distributed to the 66 percent of students in both counties who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Last year they were able to give away more than 200,000 items to 79 local schools.
"They provide great schools and many opportunities, but sometimes a child comes in and has no pencil or paper...no supplies at all and in order to succeed, we want to provide that," Jeanette Fields, the chairwoman for the supply drive.
Collection boxes for the drive are located throughout the Tri-Cities.
