KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Saturday is the day when people really pour into the Benton County Fairgrounds to enjoy all the Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo has to offer.
The fair management estimates around thirty-two thousand people will attend the fair on Saturday. That's just under one third of the total attendance over the five days of the fair.
Fair goers are spending most of their money on food and carnival rides. Saturday is a big boost in sales.
Popular fair events also draw lots of people on Saturday. The BBQ Kick-Off had a record breaking number of participants this year with twenty-one teams. Other popular events attracting people were the tattoo competition and Cowgirl College.
Lori Lancaster, fair manager, says Saturday is definitely the busiest day of the fair.
"Saturday, it's the only weekend day that we have in a five day fair so everyone comes out. Everyone wants to eat, everyone wants to come to the rodeo, the concert, see the animals. The animals are all still here. It's just seems to be historically the weekend day is the day for people," says Lancaster.
The fair has been so busy this year that Friday they ran out of parking, which has never happened before. Fair management is encouraging people to use the bus and carpool to make the fair more accessible for everyone.
