RICHLAND, Wash. - The Planned Unit Development that would have rezoned over ten acres of land on the hillside of Little Badger Mountain was denied by the Richland City Council Tuesday night.
TMT Homes had hopes of building four seven-story condos in the middle of residential suburbia.
Citizen group, Tri-Cities Friends for Responsible Hillside Development, said they're happy with the council's decision.
"It was really a lot of fun seeing everybody get together and all of us positively going out, talking to our neighbors and getting everybody excited and hopeful that we could make a change," said Marsha Milliken. "So when it happened, it was a big relief."
Milliken said it was a 'nail biter' of a meeting. The council untabled the decision from the last meeting and then went into a private executive session for half an hour. A motion to send the proposal back to the planning commission failed so the council had to make a decision. The condos failed by a four to three vote.
