KENNEWICK, Wash.- Impaired boaters beware; an increased presence of police on the water marked this weekend's "Operation Dry Water."
Marine Deputies around the region took part in the national campaign to enforce BUI patrols, which target anyone boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Anyone with a blood alcohol content level exceeding the WA state limit of .08 will be arrested. According to deputies in Benton and Franklin counties, no one has been charged with a BUI this weekend.
"We really do encourage people to report things if the see anything that looks suspicious or erratic behaviors or reckless boating behavior," said Benton County Deputy Morton. "It can all be indications that someone might be under the influence of alcohol or some other intoxicant."
Morton continued saying that with the 4th of July holiday this week and boating season in full swing, there will be zero tolerance for anyone boating under the influence.
