SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho - Tuesday night, Spirit Lake city council members and the City's Police Chief gathered amid swirling allegations of sexual harassment
against Police Chief Pat Lawless.
A $5 million dollar tort claim
filed against Lawless and the city claims Lawless verbally and physically
sexually harassed, former police officer Crystal Sudol. It also claims Mayor Todd Clary knew about the allegations, but turned a blind eye and did
nothing to investigate the numerous claims.
On top of all this Police Chief Pat Lawless is being investigated by the Post Falls Police Department for a

that city council meeting tuesday night and
it was the first time that Mayor Todd Clary and Chief Pat Lawless have been in a
meeting together since the allegations have surfaced.
As the meeting began, Mayor Clary addressed the
council saying the city would not comment on pending
Not once did the council, or Chief Lawless sitting in
the back of the room address any part of the claims.
We caught up with Mayor Clary after the meeting and
asked why Lawless is still Police Chief while being investigated by Post Falls. Clary said he could not comment.
When asked about the sexual allegations, Clary responded, "I have no comment,
you heard me say that its illegal to discuss pending
KHQ also caught up with Chief Lawless, since neither one
said they could discuss the sexual harassment claims, we asked why he's being
investigated by Post Falls Police, Lawless said, "I have no comment at this time."
Lawless gave the same response when asked if the Post Falls investigation had anything to do with sexual harassment.
The City of Spirit Lake has yet to officially respond to the
allegations, at this point no one from the city is talking citing pending
