PENDLETON, Ore. - A federal agency says one of the nation's largest onion farms will pay $150,000 to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says a worker at River Point Farms faced verbal abuse from her male supervisor from 2005 to 2010.
The harassment included unwanted sexual comments and requests for sexual favors. The supervisor also constantly told the worker that women are inferior to men and that she should submit herself to beatings by her husband, another worker at River Point.
The EEOC says that after the worker's husband attempted to kill her in 2010, the supervisor blamed her for causing the husband's arrest and fired her.
The agency says the farm agreed to rehire the worker and hold supervisors accountable for any discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.
