PASCO, Wash.- Prosecutors and defense attorneys Monday morning argued over whether jurors in a murder trial would be allowed to consider lesser charges.
The jury, made up of eleven women and four men, will hear closing arguments Monday afternoon before it begins deliberating a verdict.
Pasco Police arrested Tashia Stuart, 40, in March 2011 after she shot her mother, Judy Hebert, in Hebert's Pasco home. Stuart and her husband, Todd Stuart had been staying with Hebert for about a month before Hebert's death.
Stuart didn't testify, but her public defenders say Stuart acted in self-defense when Hebert came at her with a hatchet. During the trial a defense expert testified Hebert's alleged violent behavior was the result of a mixture of prescription drugs, alcohol, and marijuana.
