KENNEWICK, Wash. - Local businesses often get some early hype for their stores by posting up 'coming soon' signs. But for one of those businesses in Kennewick, soon... has come and gone.
The sign for a hookah cafe and lounge off of Clearwater Avenue has been claiming 'opening soon' for months. The city of Kennewick said Taxes Y Mas out of Pasco first applied for a business license there back in October. The first application was denied, though, due to a bunch of a red tape concerning both city and state restrictions on indoor smoking establishments.
"They let us know that they would, upon opening, comply with all the state regulations and the next step for them was to get proper building permits to become in compliance," said Evelyn Lusignan with the city of Kennewick.
Lusignan said that was back in December and that's the last time they've heard from Taxes Y Mas concerning moving forward with the proper building permits for the sheesha shop.
NBC Right Now contacted Taxes Y Mas several times but there was no return phone call.
