KENNEWICK, Wash. - Crews were busy monitoring hot spots at Benton County's second major fire Tuesday.
The blaze may have started from a railroad spark. With crews from all over the region already battling the Clodfelter fire when the Finley one broke out, fire officials said a second major blaze was their worst nightmare.
"That's exactly what happened last night. We sent as many resources as we could from here but luckily EROC had back-filled some other stations so we did have some resources close to that fire," said Captain Devin Helland of Benton County Fire District One.
Quick work to set up the Benton County Emergency Management Center in Richland helped ensure all fire stations were staffed.
