KENNEWICK, Wash.- Saturday marks the launch of the "Fighting Hunger Cash and food drive at Fred Meyer stores.
Northwest Farmers will hold the month long Washington and Oregon wide drive to benefit Feeding America affiliates like Food Lifeline and 2nd Harvest. Fred Meyer stores in the Tri-Cities and in Yakima will take part in the drive by placing their non-perishable food containers in their stores along with donation boxes at cash registers.
"The donations from holidays run out and school programs that families rely on for breakfast and lunch programs are no longer available cause kids are out of school and so June tends to be a month that the needs do increase," explained Sara Bryan, the Apparel Manager at the Kennewick Fred Meyer.
Bryan also said they hope to raise $100,000 in cash and 100,000 pounds of food in Washington and Oregon stores.
