SPOKANE, Wash. – After a yearlong investigation into Spokane County massage parlors ends in the arrest of eight store owners for prostitution, one former worker is now speaking out.
Heather* says being homeless and addicted to drugs led her into this lifestyle and Thursday night she shared a message of hope with other women who are trapped the same cycle.
She says she knew exactly what she was getting into when she was hired to work at the Oriental Spa on Francis and Nevada nearly four years ago.
The 32-year-old mother of 3 was addicted to methamphetamine and needed a way to make enough money to support not only her family but also her addiction.
She says the lure of easy money and the safety of not having to walk the streets at night made it an easy choice.
Describing most clients as clean-shaven and professional looking, she says they would pay $80 dollars as a door fee then choose their woman from a lineup.
Once inside a private room, she says they would negotiate with the men exactly what the men wanted and the amount of money they were willing to pay.
During a single shift she says she could make as much as a $1000 dollars and for a year and a half she worked day after day, doing something in her heart she knew was wrong.
It took the traumatic experience of being held captive and raped outside of work for her to finally decide to change her life.
After getting professional help, Heather says she is off drugs and happy that chapter of her life is finally over.
