KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Your old cell phone could help someone stay safe.
The Benton Franklin Domestic Violence Services is collecting used cell phones for emergency calls.
Donated cell phones are given to victims to keep for 911 calls only.
Cell phones can call 911 without a cellular contract.
Victims may find themselves in a situation where their abuser finds them and these phones are a resource when they need help.
"They need to be able to have that connection, that resource for them. So this is a way that we can get those phones out to victims at no cost to them," said Daniel Aspiri, Domestic Violence Services.
You can donate your old cell phone at Domestic Violence Services, local police stations and public libraries.
