KENNEWICK, Wash. - The active Coast Guard base in Tri-Cities is holding an open house this Saturday at their facilities on clover island.
The event will give boaters and families a chance to learn more about what the coast guard does.
Visitors will be able to tour some of their vessels and experience hands on demonstrations in seamanship, navigation, and knot tying.
"Well, I've talked to people who've lived here their whole lives and they don't know the Coast Guard is here. The Coast Guard has been established here since 1962, so I want to get it out to the public that we are here, we're out there serving the public," said Jeff Ruggieri with the U.S. Coast Guard.
The open house is from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Coast Guard Station on Clover Island.
There will be prizes, free give away's, and they will be serving hot dogs and refreshments around lunchtime.
