RICHLAND, Wash. - The Richland School Board held another closed-door meeting Friday. The District is investigating reports of an 'inappropriate relationship' between Superintendent Jim Busey and a district staffer.
Mum is still the word concerning Busey but the Board did name an acting superintendent today to fill in while Busey remains on paid administrative leave.
Rich Puryear will take over for now. He currently works for the district as the Executive Director of Financial Services but assumed his new position Friday.
"We want to make sure that our district staff and principals and administrative cabinet have a leader who can answer questions and help guide the district while we're going through the investigation," said School Board President Rick Jansons.
Jansons said the Busey investigation is still ongoing and there is no way to tell when it will wrap up. He did deny reports that the district offered Busey a buy-out package in exchange for his resignation. He said that is one option, of several, but would not comment further.
